Re-Building Our Community One Hour At A Time

This is our monthly committee/planning meeting that all Akron Time Bank members are encouraged to attend and participate in. The more ideas and cooperation we have, the better we can serve our members and community. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. After the meeting, enjoy some terrific wine and music by Akron's own Rachel Roberts!

Learn more about how you can use time credits to exchange services with other time bank members!   For every hour you spend doing something for someone in your community, you earn one "time credit." Then you have a time credit to spend on having someone do something for you. It's that simple.

Time banking is a great way to build community, provide and receive help, and having fun doing it!  You benefit others by doing work that you enjoy or are skilled at.  And, when you need a hand with something, time bankers are there to do the work you do not enjoy or are not skilled at.  There is NO MONEY involved.

Email or call 330-928-2301 for more information.

What Is Time Banking?

A Time Bank is a community system where a person who volunteers one hour (or more) of their time to help someone else gains an hour (or more) time credit. They can then turn around and use the time credit(s) they have just earned to receive help from someone else!
Everyone's time is equal, no matter what each hour is spent doing!!
1 hour of help = 1 time credit
5 Core Values of Time Banking:
  1. Assets. We are all assets. Every human being has something to contribute.
  2. Redefining Work. Some work is beyond price. Work has to be redefined to value whatever it takes to raise healthy children, build strong families, revitalize neighborhoods, make democracy work, advance social justice, make the planet sustainable. That kind of work needs to be honored, recorded and rewarded.
  3. Reciprocity. Helping works better as a two-way street. The question: “How can I help you?” needs to change so we ask: “How can we help each other build the world we both will live in?”
  4. Social Networks. We need each other. Networks are stronger than individuals. People helping each other reweave communities of support, strength & trust. Community is built upon sinking roots, building trust, creating networks. Special relationships are built on commitment.
  5. Respect. Every human being matters. Respect underlies freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and everything we value. Respect supplies the heart and soul of democracy. When respect is denied to anyone, we all are injured. We must respect where people are in the moment, not where we hope they will be at some future point.
