“To inspire and enable local community action to improve quality of life”. We aim to do this in line with our core values, which are to: provide passionate, intelligent leadership for the sector in Colchester & Braintree Essex and beyond;

Community360 now runs the Timebank!

We are delighted to let you know that the Braintree District Voluntary Support Agency has merged with CCVS Colchester to become Community360. Community360 Braintree runs your local timebank.

Braintree District Council established the Timebank for the District on behalf of BDVSA which it handed over to the Volunteer Centre back in 2015.  Both organisations worked very closely to ensure the Timebank grew and benefited people within the District

Across Essex there is a Timebank in area and nearly all of these have been set up and are run by volunteer centres so we are pleased that thisTimebank will also be based at the Volunteer Centre.

Community360 has an office in the Braintree & Bocking Community Centre in the Town Centre and has a great wealth of knowledge of working with volunteers and running schemes with and for volunteers.

We anticipate that you will see no change in the way the Braintree District Timebank operates following our merger  The system you currently use will not change and Dave at the Volunteer Centre will be able to access the system in exactly the same way that it is done at the moment.

If you have any queries about this or any other aspect of Timebanking please do get in contact

Local Exchange News

Welcome to the Braintree District Time Bank

Timebanking is volunteering with a twist! It’s a project which supports and encourages people to help each other and a great way to be part of your community by offering some of your spare time and skills to others. You can also ask for some help yourself - perhaps you need help with your garden. In turn, you may be able to offer someone else some help, perhaps becoming a telephone buddy to a housebound person. Let’s help build a community where everyone is respected and regarded as an asset!

Timebanking is for people from all ages and backgrounds and everyone’s time is valued equally. One hour of your time is equal to one hour of someone else’s time so whatever service or skill you choose to exchange 1 hour = 1 time credit. If you don't need any help yourself you can donate the time credits you have earned to a Community Pot as another way to ensure that elderly or vulnerable people in our community get the help they need.

Timebanking can be for individuals or organisations, and there is also the opportunity for organisations and groups to become mini-timebanks and build up their own community pots.

Timebank members can share their skills and give their time to help in a wide variety of ways such as:
  • Help with computers
  • Teaching music
  • Gardening
  • Baking
  • Painting
  • Knitting …….. and more!
The only things the Time Bank cannot be used for is mechanics, electrics and caring roles.

Why not join us and find out just how rewarding Timebanking can be! (Some activities may require a DBS check)

Who are Timebanking UK?

Time Banking UK is the national umbrella charity linking and supporting time banks across the country. We provide support, advice, guidance, resources and training to anyone interested in learning about timebanking, incorporating timebanking into their organisation or those who want to start up community time banks.

Timebanking UK supports all models of timebanking in all settings, with organisational timebanking becoming a big part of the sustainability plans of networks across the country.

Timebanking is witnessing extraordinary growth since the first time banks in the UK in 1998.  Spread to over 40 nations and 6 continents, there is now over 26,000 people time banking in the UK alone who have generated over 1.3 million hours of support for each other. There are new time banks being set up every week.  With the twin drivers of the public deficit crisis and the Coalition Government’s commitment to hand more power and responsibility to local communities and individuals, the political climate could not be more supportive of time banking.

We are a charity and company limited by guarantee.

Our head office is in Stroud, Gloucestershire where our core team work and liaise with time banks across the country.

OUR VISION

Timebanking UK believes in a world in which people may have all they need for their own well being by contributing what they can to:

  • Building community
  • Caring for the marginalized
  • Bringing up healthy children
  • Fighting injustice

To do this we have three clear roles: HELPING, THINKING & DOING.

1) Helping -

Supporting timebanking projects and our membership through advice, consultancy, training and technical support

2) Thinking -

Researching and evaluating timebanks projects, helping to shape the policy debate around coproduction and sytem change

3) Doing -

Prototyping and piloting new models of timebanking and co-productions, such as the ‘Shares’ social marketplace.

Who do we work with?

We work primarily with organisations from the public and community sectors, in a consultancy and advisory capacity

Our training programmes cover a broad range of interests through from local community champions interested in timebanking to commissioners of public services.

Our software and support packages are open to everyone.

What are Mini-Timebanks?

If you are a group or organisation with 5 or more volunteers, whether they volunteer at separate times or alltogether, you can become a Mini-TimeBank.

What does this mean?
As a Mini-TimeBank you get to bank your hours as a group and, like individual members, choose when and how to 'withdraw' and 'exchange' your Time Credits. You can also choose to donate your Time Credits to another group, individual or the Braintree District Community Pot.

If you would like information or an informal chat please feel free to contact us.
